More so than just about any event outside of the Intel Developer Forum, Intel's annual R&D day provides the clearest and most worthwhile look into the collective psyche of the world's largest chipmaker. Designed to showcase Intel's current thinking on the future of technology, the event kicks off with a keynote, and then press and analysts are free to wander about the main exhibition hall looking at research initiatives in various stages of development. This year, Intel CTO Justin Rattner reprised his keynote role from last year, giving the audience an overview of Intel's research pipeline and showing us the primary trends on which the company is placing its bets.
I spent the day taking in the exhibits at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, where the event was hosted, and I wasn't able to see everything on display. I mostly confined my focus to Intel's security- and datacenter-related exhibits, and in this article I'll give you a glimpse of two of the key server-related technologies that Intel is cooking up.
