Feature: All this has happened before: NVIDIA 3.0, ARM, and the fate of x86
At a dinner this week with members of the press, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang laid out his view of NVIDIA's past, present, and future in light of recent developments in the processor market. Jen-Hsun's remarks are worth looking at in some detail, as much for what they say about Intel as what they say about NVIDIA. We'll recap Jen-Hsun's take on the processor and GPU markets, followed by a look at the implications of the trends he references for the future of Intel, the x86 instruction set architecture (ISA), ARM, and the CPU market as a whole. Ultimately, we could even see Intel get back into the ARM market, a market where it had considerable success with its XScale line before betting the farm on x86.

Google adds 'open now' to mobile local search on Android and iOS
If you've ever searched for local shops on your iPhone or Android-based smartphone, but only wanted to show business that are still open, now you can. Google has rolled out its 'open now' feature for US-based local business search for mobile. It essentially allows you to filter by shop opening hours, showing you only the results that list the store as still being open at the time. A handy feature if you've ever been stuck without a gift after closing time, or in desperate need of Pizza at 2am.Google's also been steadily rolling out some other desktop-like improvements to its mobile local search including filtering by ratings or distance, plus the addition of photos and reviews from around the Web.
To check out all the improvements Google's been making on the mobile search side, just plug Google.com into your mobile browser and hit the 'Places' link.

No royalties on Unreal Development Kit until $50,000 in sales
Last year, Epic Games—the developer behind games like Bulletstorm and Gears of War—revealed the Unreal Development Kit: a version of the ubiquitous Unreal Engine 3 that anyone could download, for free. Use it for educational purposes or to release a noncommercial game and you wouldn't have to pay a cent. Use it for a commercial game and you'd need to pay an upfront fee of $99 and royalties on any revenue greater than $5,000. Epic has now raised the royalty threshold quite a bit: now you don't have to pay anything until you earn at least $50,000.
