SyncBackSE V5 (commercial) :: RE: One-way backups?

Hi

It's not clear which version you are actually trying at the moment - SyncBack freeware or SyncBackSE?

In SyncBackSE, both Backups and Mirrors are one-way (if you change the settings so that they copy in both directions, their Type names changes. 'What to' depends what you change...)

In SyncBack freeware, there is no actual 'Mirror' label, but the behavior can be simulated - just set the profile to delete 'orphans' on Destination

Sounds as though you are using a Sync or SmartSync profile. The latter is not available in the freeware, but the former is available in both, though in SE you can only create a Sync - which mimics the old-style dumb-Sync which is all that is available in the freeware - by starting with a Backup or Mirror and then modifying it, or by importing a Sync from the freeware 'as is'

The latter (SmartSync) will be created by default in SE or Pro if you select Sync in the New Profile wizard, and has many more options. By using a database (after run-1), it gets around the dumb-Sync limitation of 'what to do if a file is on X but not Y' - delete from X or copy to Y? The freeware can only do what you tell it, which is to do one or the other (regardless). Same applies for a non-Smart Sync in SE or Pro, if you specify one (or import one), but for obvious reasons most people don't...they use a SmartSync which has significantly more options (after run-1) because it has a database of 'what was where last time' to help it decide, and can thus handle many more situations.

In any case, it sounds from your description as though you have whatever profile you're using in whatever version you're using set to copy 'one-side-only' files to the other side. Suggest turn it off Smile In other words, if you don't want it to Synchronize (copy files in both directions) stop telling it to Smile

Note that free 30-day trials of both SE & Pro are available (i.e. don't buy before you try...)

Do not uninstall the freeware or you will defeat the auto-profile import feature. SE imports from the freeware, Pro from SE, so if you want to try both - see below - install in the obvious order. If you only want to try Pro, you can uninstall SE afterwards. There is no automated process of importing profiles into Pro from the freeware.

The SE & Pro versions can be installed in parallel with the freeware and/or each other. Do not install any 'model' to the same folder as another (just accept the default folders for an easy life). The SE & Pro versions will uninstall cleanly if you decide not to purchase. If you do decide to purchase, the serial number will unlock whichever version you decide to license. There is no need to uninstall the 'trial' and download a 'registered' version. Entering the serial number converts the former to the latter. Any version you decide not to keep will uninstall without affecting the version you do keep (if any).

(Note: any auto-profile import will not include the schedules (to avoid double-triggering). If you want to switch your scheduled profiles over, you need to delete them from the version where they were created and re-create them from the version where you want them)
