Whether they are hand-written or printed, signs, banners and billboards serve as the public face of a business or individual. A good review of one's grammar and spelling can keep one from making signs that might turn consumers and clients away.

The example of a banner that a resident assistant at a California-based college hung in a dorm, which was posted on passiveaggressivenotes.com, highlights the importance of spell checking one's writing. The hanging read, "Let's Make This Qaurter The Best!" The effect on students, understandably, may have been less than inspiring.

In another example of egregious misspelling, which was recently submitted to spellingfails.com, a roadside billboard for a school features a photo of smiling, enthusiastic children. The large letters of the "ABC Chilren's Academy" frame them, possibly turning away parents looking, ostensibly, for a school that teaches proper spelling. Elsewhere on the site one can find a photo of a handwritten sign at a store, which announces the advent of a new material altogether - "Suramic Cookware."

Professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs should perform a spelling and grammar check before they create a sign or billboard. Even if their banner is handmade, they can ensure that they don't offer up their carelessness for public consumption with a quick, painless entry of their text into a word processor.

Employers Must Work to Communicate with Non-Native Speaking Employees

Business managers who do not work to bridge language barriers with their employees risk miscommunication. They may also lose out on valuable opportunities to develop their workers' commitment, motivation and loyalty, according to the Agri News.

In particular, managers with Spanish-speaking employees are encouraged to increase their communication with workers. Labor management consultant Felix Soriano, president of Pennsylvania-based APN Consulting, LLC, recently advised farmers who employ Spanish-speaking laborers. He suggested they increase their feedback and be clear about their expectations, the news source reports.

Effective managers must make the time to communicate well with their employees, Soriano added. Managers may be surprised at how much a bit of effort to learn a single Spanish word each day can benefit their workers. Moreover, encouraging their employees to learn a single English word each day can facilitate mutual understanding, according to the paper.

As of July of 2009, there were 34.5 million Spanish-speakers in the U.S., according to U.S. Census data.

Employers can also choose to use automated translators and online translation tools to translate their workers' Spanish to English communications.

Grammar and spelling mistakes on social media profiles can adversely affect one's employment prospects

According to a 2009 report in The New York Times, studies show that nearly half of employers check social networking sites like Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook to research the online presence of their potential hires. The newspaper also notes that a number of companies choose not to offer individuals jobs based on their profile content.

Many hires are aware of this fact, and may adjust their privacy settings to make their profiles visible only to immediate friends. However, if individuals plan to keep any social media profiles public, the writing that they post should be professional.

The Daily Helmsman reports that dirty language, flawed spelling and poor grammar in statuses and posts can give employers a negative idea of the kind of person an applicant is. Speaking to the paper, Carrie Brown, a professor of journalism, noted, "obviously, if a future employer were to look at something and it had a ton of grammatical errors, they wouldn't hire that person for a writing job."

Employers, then, may see excessive cursing, broken grammar and constant misspellings as a red flag. As many websites can immediately check grammar and spelling, the Internet-savvy should perform grammar and spelling checks before posting their statuses and text online.

iPad wireless HD mirroring hack makes for better presentations

Teachers and corporate presenters alike begged Apple for video mirroring capabilities for the iPad, and the company delivered the feature in the iPad 2. Apple's solution still leaves users tied to a cord, however, so two employees at networking service provider Straight Up Technologies developed a simple hack to give their client wireless HDMI output and freedom of movement while sharing the iPad's screen.

The iPad 2 can mirror its display in 1080p HDMI video over the new Digital AV Adapter, which plugs into a Dock connector and has an HDMI port on the other side. For some presenters, being chained to a cable isn't much of an issue, but teachers in particular have told Ars that one important advantage of using iPads in the classroom over laptops is the ability to walk around the classroom and interact more directly with all the students in the room.

Fuze Meeting delivers multiparty video conferencing to iPad 2

The latest updates to Callwave's distributed conferencing platform, Fuze Meeting, have added a rather dramatic new feature that's perfect for iPad 2 owners (not to mention Android 'Honeycomb' tablets like the Motorola Xoom and older 'Froyo' devices): multi-party video conferencing.

Meeting hosts who subscribe to the company's Pro plan (US$69 per month for unlimited meetings with up to 100 attendees) get the new face-to-screen capability. Video conferences support up to 10 simultaneous participants on the browser-based client (fewer simultaneous streams on mobile devices), and the quality tops out at 720p HD while adjusting down as needed for bandwidth limitations.

We've covered Fuze before, and the core iPad app has kept its full feature set moving forward into the video conferencing realm. You can still share content directly from the iPad app (in fact, it's gotten easier, now that iOS 4.x multitasking means you don't have to relaunch the app if you switch into Dropbox to grab files). If you want to launch your camera, it's one tap to start the video conference, then a second tap to turn your direct view on. Image quality is comparable to FaceTime, although the default video window is much smaller.

You can also use VoIP directly on the iPad to join Fuze conference calls, saving you from juggling phone and pad as you participate in the meeting. You can use the Fuze app's laser pointer tool to highlight elements within PPT, image/PDF, or video content as the meeting rolls along. Of course, the desktop/browser Fuze client has evolved along with the new features, and it also supports the 10-party video chat feature.

I am missing something. Although I think that I have all the proper preferences in place, the scheduled backup does not commence.

I have done the following:
#1. Changed "Limit local account to use of blank passwords to console only".;
#2. In Regedit, I changed LimitBlankPasswordUse from 1 to 0, in order to allow use of blank password.;
#3. I restarted my cpu, XP Professional.

I am missing something. Scheduled Backup does not Run.

Amazon has just launched its free Amazon Cloud Player for both Android and the Web, plus an accompanying digital locker service, Amazon Cloud Drive. Amazon has beaten both Apple and Google to the punch with a digital locker music streaming service for Amazon.com customers, and it can be yours for free, right now.

The Amazon Cloud Player allows you to stream music stored on your free Amazon Cloud Drive in either MP3 or AAC formats directly in your browser or through the use of the free Amazon MP3 Android app. The Cloud Drive will let you upload and store almost any type of content file you like, with 5GB of free storage available to everyone with an Amazon account. If you buy an MP3 album from Amazon, it'll bump your Cloud Drive storage to 20GB for one year for free, while any MP3s you buy from Amazon are automatically added to your Cloud Drive and won't count against your storage quota. If 20GB isn't enough space for you, or you don't want to buy your music from Amazon, then additional price plans ranging from 20GB to 1000GB are available for $1 per gigabyte per year for US-customers.

Use of the Cloud Player requires a valid US-based billing address at the moment, which is likely tied to licensing agreements with record labels, but anyone with an Amazon account can use the Cloud Drive to store files. It's also not available for iOS, not even in Mobile Safari, but according to TechCrunch it has nothing to do with the lack of Flash.

Apperian picks up first enterprise iFund payout

The iFund has been pretty influential ever since it was announced a couple of years ago -- it's a pool of money set up by Apple and a few other companies to support and grow companies that are contributing to the iOS ecosystem.

It's been growing along with Apple's platform, and now the fund has made its first contribution to an enterprise developer. Apperian is a company that helps enterprises create and deploy their own mobile apps, and it's picked up $9.5 million in a round of funding that includes money from the iFund.

We've covered the use of iPhone and iPad in business quite a bit, and Apperian sits squarely in that wheelhouse, consulting with various companies on how to create and securely distribute their own mobile apps. iFund's Matt Murphy says that Apperian is riding the wave of mobile devices that are showing up in the corporate workplace, and that "Apperian's solution is perfectly timed to help enterprises rollout and manage all their applications across their employee base and its wide variety of smart devices."

Sounds like a solid plan. It's excellent to see Apple's platform growing in all kinds of different directions.

Norwegian Air Shuttle Adds In-Flight Internet

Norwegian airline opts for Row 44: Norwegian Air Shuttle is a tiny carrier, and has one plan equipped. Nonetheless, it gets European bragging rights for being the first to offer full in-flight Internet service. The airline chose Row 44, which is a satellite-backed offering, using modern Ku-band equipments.

In trials, the service will be free. The airline will put Row 44's service on 11 planes by mid-year, 21 by the end of 2011, and 41 by the end of 2012. Pricing isn't yet set, nor are routes confirmed.

Volumouse Controls Your PC's Volume with Your Mouse Wheel [Downloads]

Windows: If your keyboard doesn't have handy volume controls, or you just want something that requires no effort at all, free utility Volumouse lets you control your PC's volume with your mouse wheel.

Volumouse is quite customizable, letting you specify conditions that must be met before your mouse wheel controls the volume (e.g., whenever the left mouse button is pressed down, or whenever you're mousing over the taskbar). That way, you still get the scrolling capabilities of your mouse wheel but get some serious customization as far as volume control goes. You can create up to 12 different rules spanning all sorts of different situations.

We mentioned Volumouse way back in the day, but it's updated quite a bit. The Volumouse 2 beta is 64-bit ready, meaning you can use it in both 64- and 32-bit applications without running two instances. It also lets you create application-specific rules by hitting the "More" button next to a rule, which is really nice (especially for gaming). Of course, you could do all of this with AutoHotkey too, but if you want to get more intense about your configuration, Volumouse makes it super easy.

Desktoday for Mac neatly unclutters your desktop

Desktoday is a Mac OS X utility that lets you quickly unclutter your desktop. It removes all the files and folders that are on the desktop, and puts them in a special folder with today's date. Desktoday is easily accessible at any time via an icon placed in the system menu bar in the top right corner of the screen.

Here's how it works. You start it up, and, the first time, select where you want the Desktoday folders to be stored. By default they go into your Documents folder, but you can change that, and even use a different drive. You can also toggle the app auto-starting upon system launch.

Now, when you want to get rid of all the desktop clutter, just let Desktoday do its thing by selecting Clear Desktop from its menu. All the files and folders from the desktop will get moved to a special folder with the day's date as its name. Keep in mind, though, that Desktoday organizes items by the date you cleaned your desktop, and not the date when a certain file or folder on your desktop was created or modified. So to make the most of the app, you'll have to use it often -- perhaps every day.

iPad 2 teardown: GSM and CDMA differences

The screwdriver- and heatgun-happy bunch over at iFixit have been disassembling iPad 2s again, all in the interest of keeping radio (and other) nerds "droolingly-happy," as Engaget puts it.

Their original teardown was of a humble (relative to other iPad 2s only) 16GB WiFi-only model. Now they've attacked (harsh term) CDMA and GSM models to bring us some very nice geeky internals pictures.

In general, they say, Apple has made the same design change decisions as they did between the GSM and CDMA versions of the iPhone 4. There's no need for a microSIM slot, an extra antenna for the CDMA model or that Qualcomm Gobi radio chip, which supports both GSM and CDMA standards (does this point to the iPhone 5 supporting CDMA and GSM in the one handset?) and so on.

iFixit's most interesting conclusion: "Of the three, having the Wi-Fi-only version in your chest pocket is your best bet if someone decides to shoot at you." Tony Soprano, take note next time you visit Junior.

Launched with iTunes 9, iTunes LP would let record labels include extra content such as liner notes, expanded artwork and lyrics in albums sold on iTunes. The feature never took off, but the concept of adding value to an album using interactive digital content has not died. Record labels such as Universal Music Group and EMI are now looking to the iPad as a way to entice customers to purchase a full album with value-added content instead of individual tracks.

EMI recently released an iPad version of Until One, a dance album from Swedish House Mafia. Besides audio tracks, the iPad album includes video footage, a photo gallery and commentary from the band. The content is distributed as an iPad app and costs $9.99. Universal has also jumped on the interactive album bandwagon and has teamed with a video production company, Eagle Rock Entertainment. The duo are working on an interactive iPad versions of classic albums such as Nirvana's Nevermind. This latter project is currently under development.

Only time will tell if this latest focus on enhanced album content will succeed. In the past, consumers eschewed bonus content, but the 9.7-inch display of the iPad provides a richer, multimedia experience than the iPhone. Given the choice, would you pay more for an enhanced iPad album or would you stick with the less expensive, music-only option?

JBL introduces OnBeat speaker dock for iPad, iPhone, iPod

If you've somehow avoided buying a speaker dock for your iPad, iPhone or iPod up to this point, then you might want to wait until next month before you make your decision. That's when the JBL OnBeat speaker dock will be available at Apple and Best Buy stores.

Priced at US$149.95, the OnBeat is JBL's first foray into the iPad dock market. They've obviously put some thought into the design, building a swoopy design big enough to comfortably hold an iPad in portrait or landscape orientation and packing a pair of Phoenix full-range transducer speakers that can pump out your favorite tunes with great clarity and volume. The OnBeat produces 7.5 watts of computer-optimized, DSP-equalized audio per channel.

Not only does the OnBeat dock handle your tunes, but if you happen to have a set of composite video cables handy, you can run 'em between the OnBeat and your TV. JBL supplies an IR remote with the OnBeat so that you don't have to get up from the couch to change tunes, and of course, you can use the dock to keep your favorite iToy charged up.

As you can see from the image above, the OnBeat dock looks pretty cool, too. I don't know if it's just me, but with that iPad attached it looks like some sort of robot samurai... We'll try to get one of these docks soon for testing and giveaway.

Sorry, not clear what you want.

If you want each day a Zip with all the files changed (or new) since yesterday (as you have now, I think?), and also a Zip with all the files (new, changed or unchanged), just use two profiles - the one you have now and another profile that is a simple Backup to Zip. You can use Variables to date-stamp the Zip with 'all files' (but you'll need a lot of space!)

If you want one Zip with all changed/new files each day (as you've got now, I think?) and another Zip with only the files that did not change, then no, there's no way to do that.

If you want to store all data (new/changed or not) in the same Zip (with a new Zip each day), just use the 2nd part of solution-1 above (a simple Backup to a Zip with a date-stamped Zip name).


If I've misunderstood, you'd need to clarify / re-phrase - you should especially clarify exactly what you mean by 'incremental', as that can have more than one meaning.
